Resilience Training

SBcse1In an increasingly unpredictable world, we think developing resilience in individuals, society and nature is increasingly important. In practice, this can come down to small things, a change of mindset, which can help you to not only survive but thrive.

What is resilience?

Resilience is your capacity, or the capacity of a group or society, to continually change, adapt and develop. Many of society’s underpinning skills, resourcefulness and adaptability have gradually been lost; Survival Wisdom’s resilience training can return that essential knowledge to you. We train you to think differently, about challenging environments and unexpected events, whether you’re an aid agency in a hostage situation, an extreme adventurer, a film crew or a student on their gap year. Practical skills, advice, all the enduring small things that can make a big difference: these are the tools we give you. Resilience is as much about confidence and practical, intelligent thinking as it is about triumphing in the face of adversity.

Key objectives

• Understand what is meant by personal resilience.
• Identify five key components for the framework of resilience.
• Understand the global and local factors which contribute to personal resilience.
• Nurture reflection regarding personal strengths and abilities.
• Encourage people to develop their own resilience plans, and identify action points to help the process.

Course Delivery

The course blends principles with practical exercises to improve each individual’s performance, with opportunity for reflection. Attendees might consider reviewing “resilience concepts” before the course, as this will help them maximise the benefit they get from it.

In the words of an influential Demos paper: “Resilience cannot be the responsibility of the responders … Next generation resilience relies on citizens and communities, not the institutions of state…”
