A Very Special Guest: Actress Teri Hatcher

Last month we were privileged to host and train a very special guest, actress Teri Hatcher. Teri contacted us via our own John Hudson – having enjoyed watching his show Dude You’re Screwed in the US – to ask if the team would create a unique survival experience for her. The brief was to focus upon everything from basic bushcraft/ trapping skills, through to shelter building, natural navigation and survival psychology. And because bespoke survival courses are our speciality, we jumped at the chance!

Together, we co-designed an introductory, dual-base course in Cornwall – incorporating coastal, woodland and moorland terrain. From kayaking along the coastline, foraging seafood on a remote beach, to emergency shelter building in the forest and navigating across barren moors without map or compass, Teri literally took everything in her stride.

Teri was an absolute pleasure and fantastic fun to work with, putting in 100% effort whatever the weather. We’ll all be staying in touch and we’re looking forward to designing more of these specialist courses in future – whether for VIPs, aid agencies, film companies, adventurers or people aiming to be generally more self-reliant. It looks like a real growth area for us, and a pertinent direction for our business, which specializes in growing resilience for teams and individuals in a fast-changing, unpredictable world.

We’d like to thank everyone who helped us deliver Teri’s experience, to make it as enjoyable for her as possible, including these marvellous places, local businesses and pals: Ed & Ian (The Lost Meadow), Roger Young Land RoverThe Seaside Kitchen, Chris Perkins (The Cornish Venison Company), Chris Gordon (The Cornish Ketchup Company), Design Room Cornwall, and Lizard Adventure.

Teri tells us she hasn’t stopped talking about her experience, and of course beautiful Cornwall, since her return to LA – and we’re over the moon to hear that she plans to join us in the future for more training! Here’s a quote from Teri, in her own words:-

I am so lucky to have experienced training with the Survival Wisdom Team. Not only did I learn useful skills and resilience techniques but it gave me a deeper sense of self confidence and a trust that I am capable of handling situations outside my comfort zone. I loved this adventure and enjoyed pushing the envelope both physically and mentally. I recommend this experience to anyone interested in building self reliance or teams wanting a bit of adventure.

And Teri was also kind enough to write a fantastic article about her training, entitled ‘Ten Things I Learned at Survival Wisdom’, for Marie Claire magazine. Read the article here
